End to Racism – Housing for Migrants!

4.5.2012

Come to demand an end to racist politics and take part in a demonstration camp for Roma immigrants. Friday to Sunday 11th-13th May, Senaatintori (Senate Square), Helsinki. Everyone has a right for reasonable accommodation!

The demonstration camp aims to improve the housing situation of immigrant Eastern European Roma in Helsinki. Helsinki’s current politics is based on evicting immigrant Roma camps and constantly harassing them. Roma housing must be seen as a question of basic rights and no as a “problem with public order”.

Helsinki town board decided last summer that Roma immigrants will not be given accommodation. However, the struggle for Roma basic rights goes on. After the eviction of Satama Social Centre many citizens have housed homeless Roma. A city council initiative has also been made for a camping site. The Roma carry on moving to find better living conditions regardless of government rejection. It is important to influence the city together right now in order to force it to improve the Roma housing conditions!

Demonstration camp in Senaatintori Friday to Sunday 11th – 13th May. Join us and show your support! Come meet the Roma immigrants and hear about their situation! Bring your own tent and spend the night with us!
