Koska kaupunki kuuluu kaikille.
Tule juhlistamaan Helsinkiä kaupunkina jonka yhteiset tilat ovat kaikkien samanvertaisessa käytössä. Tuo omat safkat ja positiivinen asenne, me tuomme grillihiilet ja toivon mukaan hyvän sään.
Tapahtuman tausta:
Kesäkuun lopussa Helsingin Uutiset kirjoitti joidenkin paikallisten kielteisistä asenteista Teurastamon grilli-aluetta käyttäviä romanisiirtolaisia vastaan. Haastateltu paikallinen asukas kertoi että hän pelkää käyttää aluetta, koska alueella oleskelevat romanisiirtolaiset ovat “pahannäköisiä”. Teurastamon toiminnanjohtaja vahvisti että romanisiirtolaiset käyttävät aluetta, mutta totesi että alue on vapaa kaikille eikä käyttäjiä syrjitä. Samalla hän kuitenkin painotti ettei yksi ryhmittymä ei voi ottaa aluetta haltuunsa ja täten viedä mahdollisuutta sen käyttöön muilta.
Ennakkoluulot, pelot, ja väärinymmärrykset erilaisten ryhmien välillä johtuvat usein siitä ettemme tunne toisiamme emmekä uskalla ottaa yhteyttä. Pelkäämme, koska emme tunne. Toinen näyttää erilaiselta, käyttäytyy eri tavalla, ja meidän on vaikea nähdä ihminen erilaisuuden takana. Yksi tapa edistää ymmärrystä eri ryhmien välillä on järjestää tilaisuuksia joissa erilaiset ihmiset voivat tavata ja tutusta toisiinsa. Tämä ajatus on Ennakkoluulottomien Grillijuhlien perustana.
Tule siis 2.9 mukaan julistamaan ja juhlistamaan Teurastamon grillin, sekä koko Helsingin kaupungin, kuulumista kaikille. Nyyttäri-hengessä pidettävät Ennakkoluulottomat Grillijuhlat ovat kaikille avoin tapahtuma jossa juhlimme Helsingin ja helsinkiläisten suvaitsevaisuutta, avoimuutta, ja monikulttuurisuutta. Tuo omat safkat ja positiivinen asenne, me tuomme grillihiilet ja toivon mukaan hyvän sään.
Tapahtuma järjestetään yhteistyössä Hirundon, Vapaa liikkuvuus-verkoston, Ei rasismille! -hankkeen, Liikkukaa! ry:n, Harjun Nuorisotalon, Amnestyn Suomen osaston, ja Shalin Ry:n kanssa.

Background to the event:
At the end of June, local paper Helsingin Uutiset wrote about local residents’ negative attitudes towards migrant Roma using the barbeque area at Teurastamo. A local resident interviewed by the paper stated that he is afraid of using the area, because migrant Roma using the area “look bad”. In the same article, the Managing Director of Teurastamo Tukkutori acknowledged the presence of the Roma, but noted that the BBQ area is open to all and no one will be discriminated against. He also asked that no one user group should take over the area for long periods of time, thereby blocking other users.
Prejudice, fear, and misunderstandings between different groups are often the result of not knowing each other and being afraid to make contact. We’re afraid, because we don’t know. Someone looks different, behaves differently, and we have a hard time seeing the person behind the difference. One way to promote understanding between different groups is by organising events where different people can come and get to know one another. This idea forms the basis of the Barbeque Without Prejudice.
So join us on September 2 to celebrate and demonstrate that the Teurastamo BBQ, and indeed all of Helsinki, belongs to everyone. Held potluck-style, the Barbeque Without Prejudice is an event for everyone and open to all where we’ll celebrate tolernace, openness, and the multiculturalism of Helsinki and its residents. Bring a positive attitude and some grub to share, we’ll bring the charcoal and hopefully nice weather.
