Gathering for Migrants’ Rights IV
Join us in discussing migrants’ rights on Saturday 27th of September 2014, 1 pm – 6 pm (13.00-18.00) at Luckan (Simonkatu 8)!
During the event, Free Movement Network will tell about its activities and there will be an introduction on how to apply for a residence permit based on employment in Finland. We then want to discuss together how migrants’ and refugees’ rights should be improved.
Migrants in Finland have to deal with a variety of problems regarding the residence permit bureaucracy or work and income. This invitation is for all those who themselves have faced these problems, or those who otherwise find these questions important.
There are plans to abolish the temporary permit system that allows asylum seekers to regularize their situation. Family re-unification of refugees have thus been made almost impossible. Finland deports nowadays asylum seekers also to those other EU countries that have no functioning asylum system.
Many foreigners have difficulties to regularize their position because of the bureaucratic rules even if they have a job. For some migrants it is impossible to find a job, or job income is not enough to live on. Many have problems finding access to housing.
All who wish to improve the rights of migrants are most warmly welcome. We believe that by sharing experiences and by working together we can change the unfair policies.
The Gathering will be organized by Free Movement Network. The Gathering is a continuation of the Refugee Rights -campaign by asylum seekers, migrants and Finnish activists for a more just immigration politics and part of the 9 Gatherings –project that develops new ways to act for migrants’ rights. Luckan is a Finnish-Swedish information and culture centre.
The Gathering will be held in English. There will be interpretation for French, Persian, Russian, Finnish and some other languages. The place is wheelchair accessible..
